A Night in the Forest

is a lozenge
sucked to warm golden glass
blinding birds bright with molten joy
and song

young fox

eyes take

came in to roost
drenching owls’ down silver
they stirred, and I, nothing more than
a ghost

dawn stole
into my sleep
wrapped first around my legs
like my jet-brindled cat’s

The Size of Time

my mind
too callow to
encapsulate all this
time the earth has dreamed and whimpered
and breathed

To create a Garland Cinquain I would take the Crown Cinquain and make a sixth stanza using a line from each of the previous 5 stanzas, so that the final stanza of the first poem – in this case not making much sense – would look like this:

of pine needles
book of the sky, adding
they stirred, and I, nothing more than
