12 Degrees & Skiving

what began as year-long challenge has become perpetual until further notice

NaPoWriMo • 2 April • Il Sangue Ricorda Bene / The Blood Remembers Well

(Today’s poem is in Italian first, followed by the English version)

insetti alati scagliano, amano e cullano

~ ~ ~

8am perfumed by coffee
the ting-ting of the hornet at spring’s window
winged insects hove and love and lull
in the places recalled between us
the roads we’ve walked, the ones we shouldn’t have
and haven’t yet

with the season
the blood remembers well
this coalescence
even while familiarity bevels the edges of memory
my arms belt around your waist
you are the light of me
perpetual as cycle

and that recent shadow is not nothing
merely the mountain at our shoulder
winter’s insistence forgotten
no room for it, and so it is propelled away
on low-droning wings, curled in bee fur

you, me, this coffee and our day
is spread out like a small gods’ feast before us

Ambitious writing in two languages. Have the poems translated well or do you have to play with words for rhyme/meter?

Hey, sorry for the late reply but your comment slipped the net momentarily. Thank you for asking 🙂
I’ve been writing in English first and then translating into Italiano. The overarching meaning is there but I have to change what I say in many lines. I like that sometimes metre surprises me: it’s often there when I least expect it. I don’t just have to play with words, I’ve got to take them out for lunch!

lunch! Words can be demanding at times. 😉 Maybe I should give it a try though as words were being stubborn and it is only day seven.

Tell me wotcha reckon
