12 Degrees & Skiving

what began as year-long challenge has become perpetual until further notice

westering, propped up
to fall into a leavening horizon
even the solstitial sunset
shook it’s head
in sorrow at the intent of scissors

that winter evening and my lover both
held out the wheelbrace
for me, patient and worried
together they said,
you can’t juggle guesses
with blades, probability rusted
sitting too near
presumption’s rack and pinion
so gather up your shredded treads
and I’ll drive you home

so i unbolted the riot from behind my eyes
laid it all out on the dashboard
left and right, two whole worlds
and the year’s stretch
behind me in the wing
mirrors’ tricky distance
whose glass I’d let ripple my iris
change my lanes, seat me in the blindspot
till I choked on the recognition

whatever I felt
whatever I say
is sideways rain
and no wipers

the warmth of apperception
blanket-stitched closed
around that wound
I rolled the window
all the way down to blast
the light against my eyes
and the words rushed in

I truly like it and I think that thios stanza stands out!:
    “Whatever I felt
    whatever I say
    is sideways rain
    and no wipers”
Such a beautiful poem… Congratulations. Best wishes for the new year ahead. Aquileana 😀

    Thank you again Ali,

I wish I functioned a little more with the right brain. I read your beautiful words about 8 times and then their was a glimmer of light…….for me, ‘Gather up your shredded treads……’

My thoughts are in a much more mundane space at the moment. Wettasoiling, sheep manuring and mulching the water impervious grey sand in my garden for the summer onslaught. 39deg’s today.

I WANT an English cottage garden. Instead I plant drought tolerant, water wise plants that flower. Ground cover bougainvilleas, canna lillies, geraniums, daisy bushes, statice,coreopsis……..and fortunately am content with the result.

May 2015 be all that yourself and Marco wish for.

    Lots of love,
    Angela xxx

Thanks as always for reading, Angela…your flowers sound divine, as does the heat. It’s -4C here on our mountain home today! xxx

I love the tension in this one. I probably didn’t get it completely right, but I think I recognise the feelings, especially of the last lines.

Hi Jane, thank you 🙂 Appreciate that you can identify with some of it. End of a very long and uncomfortable year of loss, giving too much, and letting go…though letting go and letting someone else do the driving so you can pull it all apart and see for things for what they are – that’s where the words grow. Slow learner, me 😉

Tell me wotcha reckon
